Pour the pirate sherry and join us in the cozy dining room of Borelli’s Pizza to sing along with the timeless words and music of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most famous and beloved comic opera, The Pirates of Penzance!

What to Expect

Within the Gilbert & Sullivan fandom, there is a long tradition of unrehearsed, group “sing-outs” or “singalongs” (sometimes called QWERTYs). To our knowledge, there has not been an open G&S singalong event in the Chicago in numerous years, and GLO hopes that this one will be one of many future such events! Please join us in making this one a success! Your ticket purchase will help support GLO in our crucial, inaugural season!

The Singalong will be accompanied by a live pianist and will include all the music (except the overture) and all the dialogue!
All attendees are welcome to sing along with the chorus sections (sing any voice part you want / you already know)!
Bring your own copy of the vocal score or your mobile device (to access the free digital score available online).
Just want to eat and listen? Great - there's no requirement to sing (but you might not be able to stop yourself)!
If you're interested in singing a role, sign-up forms will be posted beginning in December.*
While we expect you to eat, drink (and be merry!) during the singing, please respect those who are singing by keeping voices (and devices) quiet during the singing and dialogue. We'll take a break between Acts I & II.

*Regarding role selections: 1) No roles will be precast. 2) You will have the opportunity to state your role preference(s) on the sign-up form. 3) Preference will be given to earlier sign-ups. 4) We may assign roles non-traditionally (e.g., treble voices in traditionally male roles). 5) Role assignments will at the discretion of the GLO leadership team. 6) If you’re not selected for a role this time, we hope you will still join us, and fear not: we intend this will be one of many future, regular G&S Singalongs!
